In the Spotlight: Laura Amerson
Laura Amerson, a contract resident training team lead at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), enjoys knowing she’s part of an organization which helps ensure the nation’s preparedness.
Her team provides customer service and support to on-campus students from registration through receipt of their diplomas – assisting first responders with documentation needed for training and any issues which may arise during their stay.
“Doing this job, you learn it takes a whole team,” said Amerson.
“It feels good, at the end of the day, to know you’re making a difference in the world,” she added.
Amerson holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English. While working as a teacher, she took the first step toward a career in emergency management when she accepted a part-time job as an alert and notification specialist for the Calhoun County, Alabama, Emergency Management Agency.
In 2014, she joined the indirect training team at the CDP. She subsequently moved to the resident training team, where she has been a team lead for the past six years.
