In the Spotlight: Mel Maurice
A law enforcement instructor at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), Mel Maurice is a recently retired detective with over 32 years of experience in emergency services.
He was a member of the New York City Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit, where he responded to an array of critical incidents, including rescues.
During his career, Maurice has worked as an emergency medical technician, volunteer firefighter, paramedic, and paramedic instructor. He also holds instructor certifications in law enforcement, emergency medical services and hazardous materials.
“I’m a big believer in training. Training equals readiness,” said Maurice, who has been with the CDP since 2020.
“The harder we train, the easier it is in the real world,” he said.
