In the Spotlight: Tanya Ridgle

When she’s not working as a radiation protection specialist for Los Angeles County, Tanya Ridgle can often be found teaching classes at the Center for Domestic Preparedness.

She teaches courses on radiological and nuclear themes to various responders, ensuring they can safely protect their communities.

Ridgle has over 20 years of experience in the field of radiation safety. During her career, she has investigated radiological incidents and emergencies, developed radiation safety manuals and guidance documents and performed internal audits for nuclear pharmacies in the U.S. and Canada. She also served as radiation safety officer on three California radioactive material licenses. Ridgle holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from UCLA and has been a certified Department of Homeland Security counterterrorism operations support instructor since 2015.

As a radiation protection specialist, Ridgle responds to and investigates incidents involving radioactive materials and works with local, state and federal officials to ensure sites are prepared for radiological or nuclear disasters.

“Every day, first responders put their lives on the line to ensure our safety, and it is imperative they have the appropriate resources to do their difficult jobs,” said Ridgle.

“I have the privilege of training these brave men and women who run toward danger to selflessly save others,” she added. “It is truly an honor.”
