Law Enforcement focus of upcoming train-the-trainer courses
Law enforcement courses make up three of the seven training opportunities during the Center for Domestic Preparedness’ (CDP) Instructor Training Week scheduled for September 11-16.
Integrating Communications, Assessment and Tactics (ICAT), ICAT Train-the-Trainer and Bomb Threat Management Planning courses are being conducted with the assistance of the DHS Office for Bombing Prevention and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
ICAT teaches officers how to deal with individuals who are experiencing a crisis and are unarmed or armed with weapons other than firearms. The course incorporates critical thinking, crisis intervention, communications and tactics in an integrated training approach.
To apply for the ICAT courses, visit https://cdp.dhs.gov/training/course/PER-922-1.
Law Enforcement Protective Measures for CBRNE Incidents (LEPM) and LEPM Train-the-Trainer are being taught in conjunction with Intermediate Hands-On Training for CBRNE Incidents: Law Enforcement, and Law Enforcement Response Actions for CBRNE Incidents. LEPM provides officers with the knowledge and skills to safely perform law enforcement roles during an incident involving hazardous materials, while the latter two courses focus on protective measures officers need to employ when responding to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive incidents.
If you’re interested in the LEPM courses, visit https://cdp.dhs.gov/training/course/PER-264-1.
Initial Law Enforcement Response to Suicide Bombing Attacks (ILERSBA) and Law Enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response Train-the-Trainer (LASER TtT), instructed by Louisiana State University's National Center for Biomedical Research and Training/Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education, will also be delivered on the CDP campus.
LASER TtT trains participants to teach the technical aspects of planning and implementing a rapid law enforcement deployment to an active shooter incident.
For more information about ILERSBA and LASER TtT, visit https://cdp.dhs.gov/training/course/PER-275-1.
The CDP’s train-the-trainer courses serve as a force multiplier, enabling participants to train their agency members and partnering agencies in recognition, response and mitigation best practices. All the offerings are developed and approved by FEMA and the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, and are fully funded for state, local, tribal and territorial responders, including round-trip travel, lodging and meals.
