Maps incorporated into CDP’s interactive monitors

A new map feature will be integrated this week into the interactive information monitors at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP).

The ‘Maps’ icon will enable students attending resident training to view locations relevant to them in a color-coded map of each building.

The CDP’s main headquarters building has maps of each floor, with training areas highlighted in yellow and other areas of interest, such as the cafeteria and campus store, in blue.

Another map provides similar information for the first floor of the Noble Training Facility.

Additional monitors and maps are planned.

A “You are here” function is not available for the maps, since the three current monitors all operate from the same computer system. As that changes, the maps may be tailored to each specific location.

In addition to the maps, the interactive monitors, which came online earlier this year, enable students to receive answers to many of their questions about the center and surrounding area. There is even a game and apps icon, which takes users into an interactive educational experience based on training at the CDP.

Students can scan QR codes on the screens, which directly link to the CDP’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube sites.

Users who have recommendations for future information items to be added to the screens or ways to improve the information can note their recommendations on their end-of-course evaluation forms.
