New CDP medical clinic now open

The Center for Domestic Preparedness’ new medical clinic is now open inside the center’s Chemical, Ordnance, Biological and Radiological training facility.

The first mandatory medical screenings of CDP staff are scheduled to be performed this week.

OSHA requires employees who routinely wear certain types of personal protective equipment (PPE) to undergo an annual physical exam as part of its Respiratory Protection Program. It also requires individuals who wear respirators in the performance of their duties, including training, to undergo a medical clearance process before donning and after doffing the equipment.

Prior to the opening of the clinic, CDP employees traveled offsite for medical screenings and health assessments, while post-training bloodwork of students was drawn in a hallway of the facility. These activities will now both be conducted onsite, in a more formal setting.

The clinic’s testing bay has a vision screener, an electrocardiogram to test for heart conditions, and a spirometry screening tool to examine breathing and lung functions. It also has an audiometric booth to perform hearing tests.
