New chemical ops offering nearing completion
Curriculum developers at the Center for Domestic Preparedness said this week the center’s new Chemical Operations Support Specialist Course is about 75 percent complete.
The 24-hour virtual course was developed in collaboration with FEMA’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Office. It will teach hazardous materials technicians, toxicologists, chemists and others how to advise and support on-scene commanders and operations center officials during incidents involving the release of hazardous chemicals.
The announcement follows a FEMA press release earlier this month, which said FEMA has unveiled the requirements for a National Qualification System Chemical Operations Support Specialist position (Chemical Operations Support Specialist (fema.gov)) and an associated job task book https://www.fema.gov/sites/default/files/documents/fema_chemical-operations-support-specialist_ptb.pdf
The COSS position documents were developed by the FEMA CBRN Office and state, local and academic chemical response stakeholders and practitioners, it said.
