Sen Katie Britt visits Center for Domestic Preparedness
Senator Katie Britt (R- AL) visited the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) this week.
A member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and ranking member of the SAC’s Homeland Security Subcommittee, Britt was welcomed to the CDP campus by FEMA Deputy Administrator Erik Hooks and provided a brief overview of center operations and capital improvement projects by CDP Superintendent Tony Russell and others.
The senator also toured several of the center’s key training platforms, including the Chemical, Ordnance, Biological and Radiological Training Facility, the only place in the nation civilian responders train with hazardous biological materials and chemical agents, and the Noble Training Facility, the only hospital facility in the country dedicated solely to training healthcare professionals in disaster preparedness and response.
During her two-hour visit, Britt also toured the CDP’s Advanced Responder Training Complex (ARTC), which prepares responders to deal with a wide range of man-made and natural hazards in settings that are commonplace across much of the United States. Among other things, the ARTC has an industrial park, a mock subway station, and a simulated street scene with offices, businesses, and warehouses.
