Snapshot: Detecting hazardous materials

First responders prepare instruments and kits for use during a hazardous materials detection exercise in the Hazardous Materials Technologies: Sampling, Monitoring, and Detection (HT) course at the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP). During the CDP’s five-day HT course responders demonstrate and apply advanced skills in responding to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive incidents.

Training includes hands-on exercises in the nation’s only toxic chemical-agent training facility dedicated solely to emergency responders, the Chemical, Ordnance, Biological, and Radiological (COBRA) Training Facility. The CDP is authorized to award 4 CEUs for this course by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training.
