Toxic gas response and sampling refresher courses released
FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness has added two new courses to its distance learning library – Toxic Gas-Forming Reactions Training (TRO) and Post-BioWatch Actionable Result Sampling Refresher Training (Post-BAR).
Both web-based courses are an hour long and were developed in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security’s Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office.
TRO teaches public safety officials and first responders how to recognize, identify and respond to a wide range of toxic gas threats.
Post-BAR teaches responders how to conduct environmental sampling following a BioWatch Actionable Result, in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
The DHS BioWatch Program monitors for biological agents intentionally released into the air. It acts as an early warning system, enabling rapid response to reduce illnesses and deaths from a bioterrorism attack.
The new courses join more than 20 other self-paced, web-based training offerings on the CDP web site that responders can access from anywhere, using a computer or compatible mobile device.
