Video shows responders how to plan for mass casualty surges

FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness has added another training video to its growing library of online offerings, this one titled ‘Hospital Planning for Mass Casualty Incident Surges.’

The hour-long video is geared at individuals responsible for creating and maintaining disaster plans for a healthcare facility or system, as well as non-healthcare professionals who could find themselves at the forefront of incidents and disasters which result in a large number of casualties. It introduces viewers to the hospital incident command system (HICS), and shows them how to manage both the facility’s or system’s resources and incoming patients during a mass casualty event.

The module will eventually become part of the CDP’s extremely popular Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents course, which is in the process of being updated.
