Web-based maps coming to select CDP courses

Interactive, virtual maps will soon be standard in a wide range of courses at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP).

The web-based maps will replace paper maps and increase students’ understanding of various data, such as incident response time and resource capabilities, as they work through scenarios in class and during exercises.

Courses expected to incorporate the new technology include the CDP’s Advanced Radiological Incident Operations (ARIO), Disaster Related Exposure Assessment and Monitoring (DREAM), Environmental Health Training in Emergency Response Ops (EHTER Ops), Emergency Medical Operations for CBRNE Incidents (EMO), Framework for Healthcare Emergency Management (FRAME), Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents (HCL), Healthcare Coalition Response Leadership (HCRL), Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents (HERT), Barrier Precautions and Controls for Highly Infectious Disease (HID), Incident Command (IC), Managing Public Information for All Hazards Incidents (MPI), and Radiological Emergency Response Operations (RERO) offerings.

The virtual maps will also be used in all Integrated Capstone Events, or ICEs, which are full-blown exercises at the end of a training week where students from multiple courses and disciplines respond to one or more simulated incidents patterned after recent real-world events.
