Hands-On Training for CBRNE Incidents

Hands-On Training for CBRNE Incidents is a two-day course in which participants develop and apply chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive (CBRNE) incident-response practices in a realistic environment. The HOT course provides participants with knowledge and skills to perform at an operations level. The HOT course provides responders with the unique opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills in a practical exercise in the Nation's only toxic chemical-agent training facility, the Chemical, Ordnance, Biological and Radiological (COBRA) Training Facility.

Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program:<

  • Explain the course of action for a CBRNE response, including triage, decontamination, scene survey, and monitoring operations.
  • Perform mass casualty triage, decontamination, and monitoring operations while wearing the appropriate level of personal protective equipment (PPE) in response to a CBRNE incident.



Target Audience

Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service, Governmental Administrative, Healthcare, Law Enforcement, Public Health, Public Safety Communications, and Public Works. Hands-On Training for CBRNE Incidents (HOT) is not designed for Hazardous Materials Technicians.



Prerequisites and Requirements

To be eligible for the course, the student must successfully complete the following course:

  • Participants should be able to don and doff PPE Level C, don and doff self-contained breathing apparatus, lift 40 pounds or more, and meet CDP medical criteria.

Continuing Education Credits

The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) is an Accredited Provider (AP) of Continuing Education Units (CEU) and is authorized to award the following CEUs for successful completion of this activity:
