CDP’s Tribal Nations Training Week features healthcare courses

Two of the Center for Domestic Preparedness’ healthcare courses will be available during the 11th annual Tribal Nations Training Week September 12-19 at the CDP campus in Anniston, Alabama.

The Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents (HCL) Track will prepare tribal and territorial healthcare leaders to make critical decisions during an all-hazards disaster through emergency preparedness activities. Responders learn essential disaster-planning response and recovery functions, which are applied in a tabletop exercise followed by a two-day functional exercise.

The Hospital Emergency Response Training for Mass Casualty Incidents (HERT) Track will teach responders to properly use personal protective equipment as well as triage and decontamination for both ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients. HERT also includes the train-the-trainer module for the course, enabling students to teach a basic form of the course to others.

The HCL and HERT tracks culminate in a Capstone Event, a comprehensive exercise where students work together to respond to simulated mass casualty incidents.

Training is conducted at the Noble Training Hospital at the CDP, the only hospital facility in the U.S. dedicated solely to training hospital and healthcare professionals in disaster preparedness and response.

The 2026 Tribal Nations Training Week will feature courses in 11 separate tracks: Cyber, Healthcare Leadership, Healthcare Emergency Response, Hazardous Materials, Law Enforcement, Community Safety, Tribal Emergency Operations Planning, Executive, Explosives, Strategic National Stockpile and Incident Command.

This week of training is intended for state, local, tribal, and territorial responders who work in an emergency response capacity and are affiliated with one or more tribal nations or the Indian Health Service.
