Overview

The Hazardous Materials Awareness, Train-the-Trainer (HMA TtT) is a one-day course offered to responders who have successfully completed the HMA course. It prepares students to teach HMA at their facilities by focusing on presentation techniques, practical applications, and the preparation and maintenance of lesson plans. The HMA TtT course provides students with an understanding of the HMA course material to include proficiency in identifying hazardous materials; utilizing the U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2016 Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) to identify hazardous materials risks and protective actions, utilizing hazard communication documents to identify hazardous materials risks and protective actions, and determining awareness-level personnel and public protective actions.

Below are some, but not all, of the critical skill sets learned during this training program:

Constructing learning objectives that includes a task, condition, and standard of performance.
Identifying the techniques necessary to provide an effective presentation.
Recognize strengths and weaknesses of various training aids.
Select and conduct practical exercises to facilitate the learning and capabilities of HMA responders.

Target Audience

The target audience for this course is personnel with awareness-level hazardous materials or weapons of mass destruction responsibilities in their jurisdiction.

Prerequisites and Requirements

Must have successfully completed the HMA course.

Continuing Education Credits

The Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) is an Accredited Provider (AP) of Continuing Education Units (CEU) and is authorized to award the following CEUs for successful completion of this activity:
